Ano Nuevo

We braved the wet and windy weather today to travel to Ano Nuevo State Preserve to see one of California's elephant seal breeding grounds. It was an amazing experience. We were on a docent lead hike through the breeding colony, we saw hundreds of elephant seals and, considering the males weigh as much as a Chevy Suburban, we were surprisingly close (~25 feet). Here is a link to a few of our photos:

Here is a link to a video we took of the elephant seals. The most important part of this film is the sound. The monkey-like screeches are the baby seals, the motor-cycle-like sounds are the males.

We were joined on this adventure by davidandmarta.com. In fact, D&M organized the entire adventure, we just showed up. They also probably did a more complete job of describing the day, so check their site for additional photos and stories.
